Description
SlapOS and NixOS are two modern approaches to operating systems with goals of complete reproducibility and portability. SlapOS and NixOS are both founded on a Domain Specific Language (DSL) to describe a distributed build system along up to the orchestration system, and, in the case of slapOS, up to the billing system. NixOS is a complete Linux distribution whose Nix utility is capable of generating the base system configuration in a reproducible and deterministic manner. In SlapOS, everything is a service: SlapOS is not an OS but behaves as an overlay allowing to automate deployment of distributed systems under any Un*x (Linux, FreeBSD, etc...). It is also an edge cloud engine (OSS/BSS).
The purpose of the internship is to imagine how to combine the best of SlapOS and NixOS in one system: use Nix to automate building of SlapOS packaging on many OS (instead of OBS) or to configure the base system (instead of ansible), add Nix packaging support to SlapOS, use SlapOS as a Nix orchestrator etc... We could then obtain the best principles of free systems conceived for reproducibility.
